In the presence of the director

After the screening, the filmmaker Roberto Minervini is in conversation with Belgian editor Marie-Hélène Dozo, with whom he collaborated on What You Gonna Do When the World’s on Fire?, The Other Side and Stop the Pounding Heart

In the winter of 1862, during the American Civil War but far from the front lines, a company of Union soldiers explores uncharted territory in the American West. Here, war feels neither dangerous nor thrilling, but hungry and monotonous. As these men from diverse backgrounds set up camp, play baseball, and wait, they reflect on God and life. When the enemy finally strikes, the wild nature of Montana proves to be just as deadly. The Damned marked the transition of the filmmaker to the fiction. The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
