Theo van Doesburg. A New Expression of Life, Art and Technology

In the framework of The Dutch Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Go back in time to the start of the twentieth century in the company of the artist Theo van Doesburg and familiarise yourself with his colourful imagery as you go on a voyage of discovery through the exhibition. You will make up poems, give colour to feelings and tell a story with nothing more than dots. Choose your very own pseudonym and get to work with everyday objects in red, blue, yellow, black or white. The guide will show you how to make a mobile which you can then be lit up with a torch. The 3D object is given a 2D shadow. Put this shadow down on paper, then you will see how the image changes depending on the perspective. Theo van Doesburg goes one step further. He transforms these 2D drawings into three-dimensional objects. There are figures hidden in the artist’s abstract paintings. Can you see them too?
