‘I Wayan Gde Yudane & Gamelan Wrdhi Swaram - Aquifers, New Music for Gamelan’

I Wayan Gde Yudane is one of the greatest contemporary gamelan composers. He is also one of the most important exponents of experimental music in Indonesia, and is equally at home composing for Balinese gamelan as he is writing for Western string ensembles, choirs, and electro acoustic set-ups. He also writes music for films, plays and artistic installations. With the Gamelan Wrdhi Cwaram ensemble he performs Aquifers, one of the masterpieces of contemporary gamelan. This vast soundscape, full of steep mountains and breath-taking valleys, proves that even in the twenty-first century gamelan is not just relevant, but quite literally alive and kicking!
