La Musique du Geste takes us into the intimate world of Georges-Elie Octors, conductor and musical director of the Brussels-based contemporary music ensemble Ictus for 25 years. Through his graceful, highly sensitive gestures, the film tells the story of a man shaped by two worlds: that of his father, a celebrated violinist and conductor of Congolese origin, and his own passion for contemporary music. Navigating between heritage and personal journey, Octors forges a unique path, where each gesture becomes a dialogue. Through vibrant rehearsals and excerpts from a gestural piece created for him, this portrait reveals his distinctive approach to conducting: not as a dominant figure, but as a “center of emptiness,” creating space for musicians to freely express themselves and generate the music together.
Isabelle Dumont is a multidisciplinary artist, trained at UCLouvain and INSAS, and active since 1986. She blends live arts, science, and cultural heritage in her creations. La Musique du Geste is her first feature film, an intimate work that reflects her artistic sensibility and experimental approach to documentary filmmaking.
