A+ Talk: natural light
On 23 November 2021, A+ Architecture in Belgium and Bozar will have the pleasure of welcoming Flores i Prats Arquitectes and KAAN Architecten to the Centre for Fine Arts for a joint thematic conference on natural light.
Founded by Ricardo Flores and Eva Prats in 1998, the Barcelona-based architecture firm Flores i Prats works on a wide variety of projects, ranging from the rehabilitation of buildings, to the design of new public spaces and social housing. In 2020, in collaboration with Belgian architecture practice Ouest, they won the competition to renovate the Théâtre des Variétés in Brussels. Flores i Prats was awarded the Barcelona City Prize in Architecture in 2016. Dutch architectural practice KAAN Architecten, founded by Kees Kaan, Vincent Panhuysen and Dikkie Scipio, now has offices in Rotterdam, São Paulo and Paris. KAAN Architecten is primarily known in Belgium for the renovation of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp. This year, it was nominated twice for the EU Mies Award.
The two firms will talk about the use of daylight in their work, drawing on examples such as the Sala Beckett theatre in Barcelona and the Utopia library in Alost. The evening will close with a discussion between the speakers.
