Cine concert by Aidje Tafial (composition, drums)
In 1923, freshly back from the US, the opera singer Georgette Leblanc (Maurice Maeterlinck’s partner) informed the avant-garde filmmaker Marcel L'Herbier that a New York financier was interested in investing in a film devoted to French art of the time, and that she would be the leading lady. This is how the magical story of L'inhumaine began, an idea that the French director came up with two years before the famous International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. To complete this aesthetic overview of the time, Marcel L'Herbier entrusted the set design to the cubist artist Fernand Léger, the architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, Claude Autant-Lara and Alberto Cavalcanti. The furniture was designed by Pierre Chareau, the dresses by couturier Paul Poiret.
