Fiction, friction & family

From Pippi Longstocking to Henning Mankell to the Nobel Prize: Sweden seems to be a country where multifaceted literature flourishes. But what does the literary landscape look like today? Bozar has invited three contemporary writers to take part in a discussion on literature and life: Mats Kolmisoppi, Amanda Svensson, and Lina Wolff. All three write about our typically human desire for a meaningful life. Cultural journalist Virginie Platteau leads a discussion on fiction, friction, and family.

Mats Kolmisoppi (b. 1976) has written five novels and collections of short stories, all of which won awards, including the novel Brüssel (2008), a city he has never visited, in his characteristic way, is able to observe from the inside of different minds.

Amanda Svensson (b. 1987) made her debut at 21 and broke through internationally with her fourth novel A System So Magnificent It Is Blinding (2021), ), which has been shortlisted for The International Booker Prize and praised by The New York Times.

Lina Wolff (b. 1973) is internationally known for the award-winning novel The Polyglot Lovers (2019), a novel about feminism in the #metoo era. The Guardian has compared her work to that of Maggie Nelson and Roxane Gay.
