Lotfi Bouchnak’s concert forms the absolute highlight of the two-day MOUSSEM CITIES @ TUNIS festival. Considered the ‘Pavarotti’ of Tunisia, he is not only a gifted singer, but also an accomplished oud player and composer. From an early age he sang the arias of the Egyptian diva Oum Kalthoum. He was a member of the Tunisian ‘Youth and Music’ group, and perfected his vocal technique with singer Ali Sriti. Bouchnak is one of the few artists to regularly perform at the Cairo Opera. In 1997 he won the Best Arab Singer Award in Washington DC. His repertoire is unrivalled and ranges from classical Arabic music to rap. Bouchnak also composes for the likes of Khaled (Aïcha) and the French hip-hop group IAM.
