Nadia & Lili Boulanger
The sisters Nadia and Lili Boulanger charmed the Paris music scene in the early 20th century. Lili, the younger of the pair, was an exceptionally talented composer, who looked up immensely to her elder sister. Sadly, Lili was unable to fully develop her promising career due to fragile health; she died at a mere 24 years old. Nadia, however, went on to become a respected music educator, teaching Piazzolla, Copland, Glass and others. She lived to 92 years of age. Mezzo soprano Lucile Richardot and pianist Anne de Fournel bring the two sisters’ work to life. At Bozar’s invitation, they have delved into the Boulangers’ song compositions and will present them in an intimate recital. Nadia’s stylistically refined miniatures are surrounded by Lili’s bold harmonic brushstrokes.
