29 Feb.'24
- 19:30

Sibo Rugwiza Kanobana presents his new book Witte orde. Over ras, klasse en witheid (White order. On race, class, and whiteness). The son of a white mother and a black father, he has first-hand experience with both white privilege and racism. Based on his personal history, he analyses how racism and class discrimination cannot be separated, offering a whole new perspective on diversity.

Sibo Rugwiza Kanobana is a lecturer in sociolinguistics and post-colonial studies at the Open University of the Netherlands. He is co-author of De bastaards van onze kolonie: verzwegen verhalen van Belgische metissen (The bastards of our colony: concealed stories of Belgian Metis) (2010) and compiler of the collection Zwarte bladzijden. Afro-Belgische reflecties op Vlaamse (post) koloniale literatuur (Black pages. Afro-Belgian reflections on Flemish (post-)colonial literature) (2021).

Annabelle Van Nieuwenhuyse will interview him.
