The world of author and visual artist Charlotte Mutsaers is a universe of its own. She has been surprising audiences for almost four decades with her effervescent spirit and virtuoso linguistic ability. In such contemporary classics as Rachels rokje, Zeepijn and Harnas van Hansaplast she celebrates art and life, with full awareness of death and mortality.
Mutsaers has won almost all the major literature awards and has become the grande dame of Dutch-language literature. In 2020 she won the VUB Literature Award, an initiative of the VUB-Luc Bucquoye Fonds. The jury praised her ‘idiosyncrasy, engagement, recalcitrance, freedom of thought and the stimulation of emotion and intellect’.
Mutsaers will be honoured during a unique evening in Bozar. The VUB rector will deliver the laudation, after which Mutsaers will talk to Klara journalist Gudrun De Geyter about her life and work.
