In the presence of the artist and director
The American artist Phill Niblock is a composer of avant-garde music and an experimental director who works between Ghent and New York in an asceticism which is in keeping with his work. Far from the commemorative portrait and not without humour, the young director rummages around the artist’s day to day life, and brings out the grandeur and beauty of the 16mm images that Phill Niblock spent several decades gathering during his travels between China and Brazil.
FRANCOPHOBIA - Yoann Stehr & Stephan Dubrana
Belgium / 2015 / 13' / VO FR
Competition: Award for Film on Art
In the presence of the artist and the directors
François de Jonge is a figure from the Belgian alternative scene. In his drawings which are of a meticulousness bordering on obsession, the artist develops a stressful universe in which his alter-ego Franco often evolves in line with his condition. Flat open country of the end of the world, a survival cabin, abandoned scrap iron... even the sky seems to have deserted this science-fiction portrait. Francophobia maps out a mental universe in which the frontiers between real and imaginary, work and life become blurred and merge into one.
