European Gala

In the frame of the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the European Union

The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted on this occasion by Diego Matheuz, who, like Gustavo Dudamel, emerged from Venezuela's celebrated El Sistema. Matheuz, born in 1984, has been Principal Conductor at the Teatro La Fenice opera house in Venice since 2011. The soloist is the talented young Martin Grubinger; a Rising Star in the 2007–2008 season, Grubinger is a veritable magician of percussion. In his first performance in Belgium, he will play a work by the Chinese composer Tan Dun.
