Nels Cline is old enough to be Julian Lage's father: the difference in age between the two jazz guitarists amounts to 31 years. Which has been no obstacle to their performing together. Nor should it be: as in every good relationship, age doesn't matter. Lage has described the sound of his duo with Cline as "200 percent power". That could have been predicted: in the early days of Cline's career, the legendary Rolling Stone magazine described him as one of 20 new "guitar gods" – and it has since included him in its list of the 100 best guitarists of all time. In addition, his numerous crossover projects, such as those with the group set up by Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth) and with Mike Watt, emphasize his versatility. Apart from this, since 2004 Cline has also been a full-time member of the indie band Wilco. Lage is no slouch either: a child prodigy, he performed at the Grammy Awards at the age of thirteen and two years later went to Stanford University to study jazz. Recently, he released his third album.
