The Other Side - Roberto Minervini

Among the many films portraying human suffering, The Other Side occupies a singular place. The film follows Mark, a middle-aged man living in Louisiana and trapped in a vicious cycle of drug abuse and prison. When he is not dealing drugs himself, he survives through occasional work for a scrap dealer and spends his time with his addicted girlfriend, Lisa. Mark embodies the figure of the “white trash” outsider, stranded at the margins of society, his sense of powerlessness turning into rage against politics and government.

The Other Side does not ask us to understand these people “on the other side” but makes us aware of the situations that have made them what they are today.
