Xenakis. Persephassa – Hihats In Trees. World Premiere
In this unique double bill, one rhythmic experience follows another. The Henry Le Boeuf Hall is transformed for the occasion. Les Percussions de Strasbourg transforms Horta's architecture into a soundscape and Lander Gyselinck presents the world premiere of Hihats in Trees with his latest album. Boundary-pushing beats. On and off the beat.
Persephassa is a dazzling composition by Iannis Xenakis for six percussionists seated around the audience. The Greek architect, engineer and composer considers space as a new musical parameter. The result is an overwhelming exchange of rhythms and gestures between the musicians. While the musicians of the Percussions de Strasbourg, for whom Xenakis wrote the composition in 1969, take their seats on the balconies of the Henry Le Bœuf hall, you may admire this hypnotic spectacle from the parterre.
Hihats In Trees (HHIT) is the solo project of Belgian drummer/producer Lander Gyselinck (Lander & Adriaan, STUFF., BeraadGeslagen), in which he explores different beat cultures through acoustic, non-synthetic sounds. HHIT grew out of Gyselinck's PhD research and mixes percussion with a ‘club music’ philosophy. Influenced by gqom, Detroit techno, hip-hop and ambient, he balances the energy of the dance floor with introspective rituals. For Bozar, Gyselinck assembles an ensemble of four percussionists, performing both familiar and new material in a compelling live show.
