Rahki Sing gained considerable experience as the artistic director of the Manchester Collective and has played with big names like Björk and Philip Glass. In the meantime, she has been working unceasingly on her solo career. Sing loves to explore the borders between genres, effortlessly combining Bach with the contemporary sounds of Michael Gordon and Missy Mazzoli. The highlight is LAD by our season composer Julia Wolfe. Sing has arranged the piece – originally for 9(!) sets of Scottish bagpipes – for her beloved violin. In LAD, Wolfe spends 17 minutes exploring the essence of sound colour. Or, as she puts it herself: “What is the essence of this specific sound, and how long can I sustain it?”
