The rhythmic drive of rock, the directness of folk and minimalist patterns: Julia Wolfe forges all of these elements into an idiosyncratic music of her own. This season, you can hear no fewer than seven pieces by this prominent composer, ranging from grand oratorios and dramatic episodes from American history such as Fire in my mouth and Anthracite Fields to intriguing works for percussion – including a concerto for body percussion – and six pianos in my lips from speaking.
