Ravi Coltrane: Translinear Light

8 Mar.'27
- 20:30

Ravi Coltrane, Brandee Younger, David Virelles, Robert Hurst, Jeff Tain Watts

Although both are exceptionally gifted saxophonists, the saying ‘like father, like son’ hardly applies to John and Ravi Coltrane. Ravi was barely a year old when he lost his father. He consequently took his first musical steps under the approving gaze of his brothers and mother, Alice Coltrane. This concert – on International Women’s Day – pays tribute to Alice through recent orchestrations of her compositions. Her artistic influence fully expresses its dynamic scope and breadth in Translinear Light. As a harpist, pianist and composer, she was a champion of spiritual jazz. Brandee Younger is even bringing along Alice’s restored harp. Jazz heavyweights David Virelles (piano), Jeff “Tain” Watts (drums) and Robert Hurst (bass) also join the line-up.
