With their free-flowing and intuitive interplay, Sam Gendel and Sam Wilkes are redefining the idea of a contemporary jazz duo. Emerging from the vibrant Los Angeles music scene, they have built a unique sonic universe through a collaboration that began with their now cult album Music for Saxophone & Bass Guitar (2018): distorted saxophone layers, minimal bass lines and lo-fi electronics merge into a soundscape hovering between jazz, ambient and hip-hop. On More Songs (2021) and The Doober (2024), they continued uncompromisingly along this path. On stage, their unique musical affinity leads to thrilling performances in which groove meets unbridled experimentation.
