11 writers on music
Eleven writers have drawn inspiration for new work from BOZAR's new music season - each writing a literary homage to a composer, musician, conductor, or composition that has meant a great deal to them. Well-known Dutch- and French-speaking writers have picked out a variety of concerts from our programming. Bart Moeyaert, for example, pays a tribute to the Italian diva Cecilia Bartoli, while Saskia De Coster has delved into the electronic music of the BOZAR ELECTRONIC ARTS FESTIVAL and Caroline Lamarche has written about Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John Passion.
Music has always been a major source of inspiration for writers. The US writer Maya Angelou, who died recently, described music as a place of refuge: "I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl back to loneliness." And in that quotation, BOZAR LITERATURE found a fitting name for this new project.
The eleven texts of The Space between the Notes are collected in an exclusive publication, as well as in the programme booklets for our concerts. Some of the writers will be brought face to face with musicians and/or conductors in a talk about music. You can be present at these encounters, as introductions to the concerts. Warmly recommended for everyone who loves music and literature!
