In Story of My Death, Casanova meets Dracula in a twilight 18th-century Europe. Two legendary figures, strangers to the modern era, represent the shift from a world of rational desires and positivist expectations to one of shadows and violent impulses. Drawing on romantic and literary imagery, director Albert Serra crafts a sensory fable in which history falters and the characters seem to regard themselves more as aesthetic forms than conscious beings. Filled with haunting imagery that resembles that of old baroque painters.
