Ballet Festival 2016
Ballet of the National Opera Theatre of Ukraine
Exceptionally beautiful ballets!
Whenever you think of ballet, « Swan Lake » is the first one that springs to mind. The premiere involving the famous trio Petipa, Inanov and Tchaikovsky was staged in 1895, interpreted by the Ballet Mariinsky in Saint Petersburg. Petipa “The Grand Master of the Pointes technique”, was particularly careful about the ballerinas dancing on pointes, with the absolute highlight bein the Black Swan’s 32 fouette turns. This spectacular technique, comhined with the dual role of Odette/Odile, means that this ballet is a real ordeal by fire for each ballerina.
This magical romantic story tells the tale of the utter, unrestricted love between Prince Siegfried and Princess Odette. However Von Rothbart, the sorcerer, cast a spell on the pure, innocent princess, who, as soon as night fell, turned into a swan. Only unconditional love could break the spell. Von Rothbart tried in vain to interfere between the lovers, as his daughter and Odette were as alike as two peas in a pod…
Tchaikovsky’s wonderful music, the dancer’s virtuosity, the magnificent corps de ballet of the National Opera of Ukraine and the stunning sets turn this touching story into a real fairy tale for all ages.
The principal role, Odile/Odette is held by the wonderful Alyona Shevtsova, her talent, her charisma, have led her to an exceptional international career.
