A Defense of the Less Good Idea + Sounding Pictures
Founded in 2016 on the initiative of multidisciplinary artist William Kentridge and theatre director Bronwyn Lace, The Centre for the Less Good Idea is an experimental platform for live arts based in Johannesburg. Conceived as a space for creation through collective experimentation and improvisation, the Centre brings together music, poetry, moving image, visual arts and mediation, and gathers artists from a wide range of backgrounds. In 2024, musician and composer Neo Muyanga became the Centre’s impresario and developed a programme of regular activities there.
This season, marked by the imprint of Grand Invité William Kentridge, offers Bozar audiences an exceptional opportunity to discover the work and the artists that make The Centre for the Less Good Idea one of the most inspiring creative spaces in the world. Two performances presented on the same evening will bear witness to this: A Defence of the Less Good Idea, a lecture-performance by William Kentridge, and Sounding Pictures, a screening of a silent film specially created for Bozar and accompanied live by musicians and performers closely associated with the Centre.
