‘Workshop: Voyager Bizarre’

Anartist Vineyard and Contemporary Glory take you into their world of ballroom and costume parades: become your own transhuman hero and together let's create a future where everyone feels at home. To do this, we draw on the aesthetics of the legendary Sun Ra, who wore ornate robes and Egyptian headdresses and composed moon music to embrace total freedom through our reimagined cosmos.

The Voyager Bizarre workshop focuses on creating masks, costumes, headdresses, wings, ... that express the future we want to live in and the heroes we want to be here and now! We will use recycled materials such as cardboard, tape and plastic packaging as our main tools. To conclude the workshop, we will make a colourful parade through Bozar together!

This workshop is an intergenerational activity for children and adults.

Roxette Capriles works under her artist name Anartist Vineyard at the House of Vineyard, the first house to bring the ballroom scene from the US to the Netherlands. A festive and political fashion show, Ballroom shows how different the world could be if everyone could express and show themselves freely and safely. Roxette fights for this cause through large, extravagant costumes that refer to the traditions of the 1990s.

Together with Louis van der Waal, Charlien Adriaenssens founded the Contemporary Glory collective, which focuses on performance art in public spaces. The collective operates in the Netherlands, Belgium and Kinshasa, where it is a partner in the annual KINACT festival, a gathering of international performance artists. Costumed performances are an important source of transcending oneself and getting in touch with unknown people – and the unknown.
