The Young Belgian Strings will perform the Requiem by David Popper, one of the most legendary cellists of the 19th century. The solo parts of this work for three celli and orchestra will be performed by Olsi Leka (principal cellist of the Belgian National Orchestra and cello teacher at the Brussels Conservatory) and two of his students: João Gonçalves and Florianne Remme.
Olsi Leka will then venture into Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations with the Young Belgian Strings conducted by Dirk Van de Moortel. In this work composed for the German cellist Fitzenhagen, Tchaikovsky wanted to express his admiration for the simplicity and clarity of Mozart's music. The cncert also includes Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, one of the most beautiful works for string orchestra ever written.
Requiem, op. 66
Variations on a Rococo Theme, op. 33 (arr. for cello and strings by Ryuichi Horikoshi)
Serenade, op. 48
