Music on the big screen

On 10, 11 and 13 November, Bozar will host three exceptional events of the Brussels Art Film Festival (BAFF), dedicated to three major figures of contemporary music: Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Zorn and Thelonious Monk.

To open the 21st BAFF, Bozar presents Licht, the film by director Oeke Hoogendijk which traces the epic work of German avant-garde composer Karlheinz Stockhausen (Thursday 10 November in the presence of the film-maker). The programme also includes the documentary trilogy dedicated to saxophonist, clarinettist and composer John Zorn, filmed by his friend Mathieu Amalric, who will be present at the Centre for Fine Arts (Friday 11 November - 6 pm). Zorn fans will be particularly spoiled as this event coincides with the release of the recording of the New York artist's unforgettable performance on the organ at the Henry Le Boeuf Hall on 23 March 2019 (The Hermetic Organ Volume 10 - Bozar, Brussels, Tzadik). The BAFF will close with a screening of Alain Gomis' Rewind & Play, which deconstructs the 1969 appearance of the genius musician Thelonious Monk in Jazz Portrait, to free him from the stereotypes in which the famous French television show tried to confine him (Sunday 13 November - 6 pm).
