During his career, Chick Corea worked with legendary jazz greats such as trumpeter Miles Davis, pianist Herbie Hancock and bassist Stanley Clarke. He was nominated no less than 65 times for a Grammy Award, of which he was able to cash in 23. He renewed jazz in the 70s, when he founded Return to Forever, thus becoming one of the great pioneers of fusion. He walked many stylistic paths, and could mix genres like no other, always exploring new possibilities of the piano.
Chick Corea has been a guest at BOZAR several times. In 2015 he dialogued with that other piano legend Herbie Hancock and in 2018 he treated the audience to an intense recital of his own work and standards, in which he also managed to mix Mozart and Bartók. Normally, he would have shone in our main hall on 11 March 2020 as well, but it was the first concert we had to cancel due to the corona crisis. We would like to express our support to his family, friends and all music lovers who have been affected by this great loss.
