Each game explores how digital architectures allow us to escape the constraints of the real world - such as walls, borders, or power structures. Through immersive storytelling and collaborative gameplay, these games reimagine public space, social relationships, and freedom in an interactive format.
New this year: Bozar in Minecraft
For the first time, Bozar Arcade is also creating a virtual chapter within the world-famous game Minecraft. In this innovative pilot project, the Centre for Fine Arts is digitally reconstructed. Visitors can design, build, and explore their very own version of Bozar.
In collaboration with the artist Wizard Keen, known for his educational and artistic Minecraft projects, this initiative builds a creative bridge between physical and digital architecture.
Selection of games:
- Panoramical by Fernando Ramallo et David Kanaga
- Vandals by Cosmografik
- Shape of the World by Stu Maxwell
- Townscaper by Oskar Stålberg
- Minecraft by Wizard Keen
This edition is part of the architecture exhibition Ouest. Urban Legend, presented at Bozar from October 15 to January 4.
Bozar Arcade's Manifesto
Bozar launched the Bozar Arcade project in 2024, designed to offer visitors a unique exploration of a new contemporary art form: artistic video games. Several times a year, the public can visit Bozar Arcade and wonder in worlds that are not only virtual but also interactive, and created by contemporary artists.
A 10-point manifesto guides our selection process for the video games we show in the Arcade :
- We seek to push the boundaries of art and games; each game can be a canvas for ARTISTIC EXPRESSION.
- Games should be over A STORY/EXPERIENCE not about winning or losing.
- We promote inclusivity and embrace DIVERSITY in our offers.
- We curate games that are about CONTEMPORARY issues, historical contexts, and socio-political themes.
- We put the audience experience as a priority, selecting games that offer a balance of entertainment, and conceptually INSPIRING CONTENT.
- We consider accessibility to welcome players of ALL SKILL LEVELS.
- Games that include extreme violence, harm or discrimination are not welcome here.
- We support INDEPENDENT artists and game developers.
- We support games that aim to CHANGE THE WORLD, not to mimic reality.
- Artistic video games are not products, they are a CREATIVE PROCESS.
This collaboration is realised within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan launched by the Belgian federal government with the financial support provided in the framework of the European Recovery and Resilience Facility, under the project code I205024 | I - 2.05 - Digital BOZAR.
