Eastman - Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui

3S, by choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, is intense due to its theme: one that deals with solitude in a world from which there is no escape. Intense also because it is topical, anchoring solitude in places that define, nourish and sometimes threaten us. Or are we the ones who threaten? Three dancers evoke tragic events that have struck their home countries: Japan’s nuclear catastrophe; the destruction of Australian forests by multinationals; and the ravages by Colombian guerrillas, a sounding board for Syria’s civil war. The sense of solitude and vulnerability is reinforced by three female singers, who add an unfathomable depth of feeling, and by the images of filmmaker Sabine Groenewegen.

3S, like three solo performances, or three solitudes. Eastman presents a great moment of dance, created by one of the best choreographers of his generation, in which the condition of modern humankind is linked to its impact on the environment.

Eastman aims to produce and promote the work of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. The choreographer’s art includes a vast array of projects and collaborations, ranging from contemporary dance, to theatre, ballet, opera, musicals and other forms of live entertainment and performances.
