Beats & Pieces Festival
For one evening, percussion takes center stage with not one but two percussion concertos. Colin Currie shines in Julia Wolfe’s Body Language and Louis Andriessen’s Tapdance, moving between marimba, timpani, clapping, and a variety of other instruments. With striking rhythms and unexpected sonorities, these pieces offer a fresh perspective on the symphony orchestra. Alongside these concertos, Arvo Pärt’s Fratres creates a meditative dialogue between strings and percussion, marked by simplicity and introspection. Finally, with the Catfish Row suite—featuring themes from Gershwin’s iconic opera Porgy and Bess—the full orchestra comes together to deliver one of the finest fusions of jazz and classical music.
Enhance your experience beyond the concert with an introduction! The introduction starts at 7 pm and is free upon presentation of your concert ticket.
