Contemporary Cuban Art: Music, Musical Poetry, Visual Arts

For its fourth edition, the CubaLandz festival of contemporary Cuban arts is honouring Haiti. For Bozar and Camarote, the aim is both to highlight the cultural and artistic vitality of the region, away from the exotic clichés, and to build bridges between Cuban and Haitian artists, whether islanders or from the diaspora, thus contributing to the historical dialogue between these two communities. This new edition features an exhibition by Sergine André, drawing on both traditional and avant-garde Haitian art, an evening with poet Jean D’Amérique and guitarist Humberto Gonzalez, and three concerts: the gentle voice of Marlène Dorcéna, a Haitian living in Belgium, joined by Belgian saxophonist Pierre Vaiana, and the Afro-Cuban jazz of trumpeter Ruben Hernandez, who will also be back for an exceptional evening with DJ Zwalla, Cuban percussionist Damián Alvarez Castro and the colourful video mapping of the artist Maria Ilia.
