‘FOCUS ON AUSTRIA’

2018-2019

The Centre for Fine Arts and Austria share a longstanding partnership. Starting in 1947 with the exhibition Masterpieces from Vienna, the Centre for Fine Arts celebrated Austria and its rich culture on several occasions. As a cultural institution at the heart of the capital city of Europe, BOZAR focused on Austria during its previous presidencies of the Council of the European Union, in 1998 and 2006, offering a multidisciplinary view on Austrian art.

The coming months offer a new opportunity to highlight Austrian culture and to discover how the traditional and the modern, a commemoration of the past and visions of the future can harmoniously complement each other and open up new perspectives. The major attraction at BOZAR is the exhibition Beyond Klimt. New horizons in Central Europe, 1914-1938. But with, amongst others, the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Wiener Symphoniker, the Klangforum Wien, Ars Antiqua Austria and the Wolfgang Muthspiel Quintet music lovers will be getting far more than their money’s worth! The Austrian poet Ann Cotten and writer Arno Geiger will present their work to Brussels audiences and filmmaker Ruth Beckermann takes a look back over a few turbulent episodes in recent Austrian history.
