"The white marble of the steps of the Besední dům in Brno. The ordinary labourer František Pavlík falls, stained with blood. He came here to champion higher learning and has been slain by cruel murderers." These words, appended to Leoš Janáček's Sonata, 1.X.1905, "From the Street", recount the tragic and unjust death of a worker during a demonstration that inspired this profound work. After Alexander Vustin's Lamento, which is reminiscent of birdsong interrupting the funeral of a friend, the outstanding Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes transports you to calmer horizons created by Beethoven's delicate Sonata No. 31 in A-flat major and Dvořák's meditative Poetic Pictures.

A talk with Leif Ove Andsnes takes place in the Henry Le Boeuf Hall after his recital.
