Monos follows a group of armed teenage guerrilleros assigned to watch over a hostage. The commandos are part of an unidentified, mysterious organisation. When the boys' trainer leaves on a mission, the boys get wrapped up in a powerplay, each attempting to become the new leader. Things turn sour when the hostage tries to escape.

Having had its world premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival where it won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award, Monos was selected as the official Colombian entry for the Oscars. The film features a haunting original soundtrack by renowned musician Mica Levi.

Born in Sao Paulo, Alejandro Landes (Colombia/Ecuador/Brazilian) made the feature documentary Cocalero, which screened at over 50 international film festivals. His second feature, Porfirio, premiered in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
