‘The Political Body’

A night of literature & music

The body is determining for our identity, but at the same time it is subject to control, by others and by society. Our conceptions of race and gender, for example, acquire form through the body. With the political-literary programme The Political Body, BOZAR unites an actor, two writers and two musicians on the same stage. The literary voices Athena Farrokhzad and Kristina Leganger Iversen, test and challenge in their writing our way of thinking about identity, gender and the body. To the musical accompaniment of Sandra Kolstad and Jonas Barsten, they will be reading excerpts from their work and talking with the audience.
To our regret, Édouard Louis has cancelled his visit to The Political Body. But we have found someone to replace him, and not the least. The text that Édouard Louis would recite, will now be read by actor Yoann Blanc, known for the successful series La Trêve and numerous feature films, including Un homme à la mer.

Athena Farrokhzad is a Swedish feminist poet of Iranian origin. She is one of the most important voices of the young generation in Sweden. Her debut collection White Blight has been translated into more than 10 languages.
Kristina Leganger Iversen is a Norwegian poet. She published her first poetry collection in 2011, titled Hjartemekanikk.
Sandra Kolstad is a Norwegian, versatile singer who lives in Berlin. She makes electronic pop music and also works as a composer for theatre and other performing arts. For this project she works together with musician Jonas Barsten.
