Rumba Na Lola: Lecture

14 Dec.'26
- 19:00

with a live band

Congolese rumba is a vibrant blend of music and dance, deeply rooted in Congo’s urban culture and transmitted across generations, the diaspora and communities worldwide. Five years after UNESCO recognized the genre as intangible cultural heritage, we present a celebratory tribute to this rich tradition. “Na Lola” – meaning “towards the north” – refers to the rumba’s journey from the Congo to Brussels. On 19 December, Klay Mahungu and the Mythique Rumba orchestra pay a festive tribute to this rich tradition. This in-depth talk with a live band explores the history and significance of rumba.
