‘Trio Wanderer’

Critically acclaimed Trio Wanderer (Diapason d’Or, Gramophone Editor’s Choice) will perform accompanied by a group of talented musicians to celebrate the bicentenary of César Franck and his exquisite music. The Belgian composer dabbled in symphonic music but conveyed his true genius through chamber music. His Sonata in A major for violin and piano, dedicated to the violinist Eugène Ysaÿe, is emblematic, dreamy, passionate, and built around a cyclical form: a single theme throughout the work gives it formal unity. Franck’s Piano Quintet, another major work, is full of dynamic contrasts and is one of the first masterpieces of the genre. According to Nadia Boulanger, this quintet contained more pianississimi and fortississimi than any other chamber music written until then.
