Open Call for the second Halaqat Music Residency with a focus on improvisation, ethnic and folk music

20 - 25 May’22 in Brussels

Bozar and the Goethe-Institut together with Werkplaats Walter in Belgium and the Amman Jazz Festival in Jordan organise the Halaqat music residency programme in 2021/2022 and are looking for six motivated emerging professional musicians from both the Arab World and Europe to meet, exchange ideas and perform in Brussels (Belgium) from 20 to 25 May 2022.

The concept of the residency programme is to focus on free improvisation, experimentation, real live exchange of musical ideas. It aims at bringing together musicians not necessarily knowing each other and giving them the opportunity to perform, improvise, experiment and search for common grounds together. The residency programme consists in a cycle of three residencies all taking place in Brussels. The first residency on jazz and electronic music took place in November-December 2021 and gathered five musicians from both regions.

This open call deals with the second residency focusing on improvisation, ethnic and folk music and taking place from 20.-25.05.2022. The last residency in fall 2022 will focus on a larger ensemble with possibility of participation of the artists of the first two residencies.

Deadline for submission: 10.02.2022

Selected artists will be notified on 24.02.2022

This music residency programme is part of the European project Halaqat organised by the Goethe-Institut together with Bozar - Centre for Fine Arts Brussels and co-funded by the European Union.
