Williams Violin Concerto 2 & Mahler 5

Although John Williams is best known for his now legendary film scores (Star Wars and Harry Potter, among others), the American master also created a captivating symphonic oeuvre. Satisfy your curiosity with his Concerto for violin and orchestra No. 2, performed by the incredibly talented Anne-Sophie Mutter, the world's leading violinist, discovered at the age of thirteen by Herbert von Karajan. For its European tour under the baton of Fabio Luisi, in the second half, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra treats us to one of the key works of the symphonic repertoire: Mahler's Symphony No. 5. A nod to John Williams? Perhaps, because the profound and intense work owes part of its popularity to its use by Luchino Visconti as the soundtrack to his film Death in Venice.
