With a profusion of acoustic instruments or purely electronic sounds, the Total Immersion festival aims for complete auditory immersion. The Acousmonium – an installation comprising 80 speakers from 1974, brought over specially from Paris – proves that this is by no means a new concept. Indeed, as early as 1957, Stockhausen positioned three orchestras around the audience. During the happening on 30 January, you’ll be surrounded by two hundred musicians performing Sciarrino’s Studi per l’intonazione del mare, by the beats of Jlin, and by the Vlaams Radiokoor singing Schubert’s Lieder. Finally, Aifoon will be travelling around Brussels with a mobile sound installation to transform the city into sound.
