Call for teachers: Cantania

A unique singing adventure with your pupils

Bozar offers teachers and pupils a taste of the inspirational power of singing through the international Cantania project. Are you a teacher in primary education looking for a project that will sharpen children’s creativity, concentration, long-term memory and spirit of collaboration? If so, sign up for Cantania!

Cantania is a participatory vocal project for children from the 4th to the 6th primary school in Brussels, organised by Bozar in the framework of Singing Brussels. The aim is to anchor singing in the classroom for a long time, as it stimulates self-esteem, respect for others and improves the feeling of cohesion among the children.

Over four days of training, you will be immersed in a unique musical composition written especially for children, both in terms of themes and textual and musical content. You will be given tips and tools to help you teach it to your pupils in a caring and fun way. The lyrics of the cantata are in French and Dutch, which gives the project an extra richness.

In May 2022, a closing concert will invite parents, family and friends to Bozar to hear the young choristers accompanied on stage by the Belgian National Orchestra.

Between Two Worlds

The cantata that will be performed during the 2021-2022 school year is based on a musical work composed by Xavier Pagès i Corella and on texts adapted by Belgian authors Elvis Peeters and Vital Schraenen. Between Two Worlds tells the story of a boy and his father who, driven by the call for a better life, cross a vast sea together. The see is a source of life and wonder, imagination and myth, adventure and danger, hope and solidarity. The music is lyrical, surprising, poetic, exciting and mysterious, but also recognisable, cheerful and rhythmic. The pupils will be accompanied on stage by a baritone singer and professional musicians.
