Hall M and Studio reopen after renovation

Bozar reopens Hall M and Studio after major renovations. With this renewal, the Centre for Fine Arts is investing in future-proof infrastructure for music, film, talks and performing arts, while respecting Victor Horta's architectural heritage.

Renovation work on Hall M and Studio began in March 2024. Hall M underwent the most extensive renovation. The hall's acoustics, sound insulation (both internal and external), technology, fire safety and visibility for the audience were thoroughly modernised and improved. The works have once again revealed structural elements that were originally designed by Victor Horta but had been hidden. The hall now has 471 seats and five places for people with reduced mobility.

The assignment for the Studio focused on the renovation and expansion of the stage equipment. The architect opted for clear and simple interventions: absorbent walls were flattened, reliefs around the large columns were removed and a palette of black tones was applied to create calm and clarity.

The renovation, with a total budget of €11 million, was made possible thanks to funding from Beliris, which covered the majority of the costs, the Regie der Gebouwen and Bozar. The project was led by the architectural firm Pierre Hebbelinck, assisted by Artsceno, Kahle Acoustics, Arcadis, Jos Vandenbreeden and Martial Prévert.
