Dear subscribers,
Dear Friends of Grandes Conférences Catholiques,
The 2021-2022 conference season will hopefully be in person!
Since 1931, Grandes Conférences Catholiques have pursued the same aim: to make the voices of men and women who define their era in their respective fields heard, and to contribute to the development of Brussels, capital of Europe and Belgium, as a place of intellectual exchange and influence.
Next season’s programme reflects this ambition. I am announcing it with confidence as well as caution.
With confidence, because I see the faithful commitment of our members and of a wider audience to the project that our forum promotes. This ambitious project cannot be achieved without your support. We do not receive any public subsidies. I therefore thank you.
With caution, because the fulfilment of this programme depends entirely on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our conferences will obviously comply with health & safety measures enforced by the public authorities. We sincerely hope that at the end of the summer the vaccination campaigns will allow for in-person cultural events at full capacity as currently projected. Please note that as a precaution our programme will not begin before November, hoping that by then a great majority of the Belgian population will have been vaccinated. In the event that the circumstances at that time call for new measures, we will adapt accordingly.
Thanks to technical support from the Palais des Beaux-Arts, we will be able to broadcast our conferences online. Subscribers who sometimes do not wish to attend in person can provide an email address and will be granted secure access.
All 2021-2022 conferences will be held in the Henry Le Boeuf theatre at the Palais des Beaux-Arts (Rue Ravenstein, 23 in 1000 Brussels). After last January’s fire the theatre benefited from a first renovation.
As you may have noticed, this season includes eight conferences instead of seven. One postponed conference from last season has been added. From November 2021 to March 2022, we are proud and delighted to be able to welcome nine leading figures.
The theatre’s seating capacity is large, but nevertheless limited. We encourage you to promptly subscribe or renew your subscription.
